Description

“WHEN YOU’RE TRYING SOMETHING NEW, YOU’RE TORN BETWEEN ANTICIPATING A DELIGHTFUL SURPRISE AND THINKING YOU’RE A FOOL TO IGNORE WHAT YOU KNOW YOU LIKE.”
Jenny Holzer

Jenny Holzer’s text-based works may contain powerful and moving messages, but beyond their explicit meaning, words and letters have an aesthetic and a dynamic of their own that can also be deeply evocative. An ’N’ divides the space it occupies in an entirely different way to that of a ‘g,’ for example and producing it, although habitual and unconscious, demands of the writer, a very different kind of movement.

In this one day workshop, we will look at the way that text can alter the picture plane and use the spaces between words and the movements that letters evoke, to create our own large abstracts in ready-mixed acrylic on canvas.

All equipment is supplied and no art training or experience is necessary.

“ENJOY YOURSELF BECAUSE YOU CAN’T CHANGE ANYTHING ANYWAY.”

Jenny Holzer
