Painting Holiday F.A.Q’s:

Q: Do I need to be an experienced artist before I go on a painting holiday?

A: No. All you need is a little enthusiasm, and a true interest in the subject. Just dive in. No one ever learnt to swim on dry land!

Q: Can’t you make the holidays any cheaper?

A: Our hosts cater for small numbers to ensure individual attention from them and the tutor. The economies of scale, that tour operators work with, just aren’t available to us. What’s more, unlike most packages, there are rarely any hidden extras in the price of your painting holiday.

Q: Will it be hard work?

A: Nothing about the course is compulsory and you are free to work entirely at your own pace.

Q: Will there be any excursions?

A: Usually, we’ll make one or two trips to a nearby town or place of interest. Some people like to bring their sketchbooks, others just relax or go shopping! If it’s an all-day trip, we’ll either take a picnic or make arrangements to eat out.

Q: What’s a typical day like?

A: After breakfast, between 8 or 9am, David will give a talk on a particular topic (colour, composition etc.) and after coffee break, you’ll be set a task, which you’ll work on until lunch at 1pm. We resume again at 3pm when you can work on your own pictures, with help from David. The day finishes around 5 or 6pm, so there’s time to go to the pool or relax in the garden with a drink before supper at 8pm.

Q: Will I improve?

A: Undoubtedly. David and your hosts are there to take the worry from your shoulders. With no distractions and nothing to concern you but your art, improvements are a matter of course.

Q: My partner/friend would like to come but doesn’t paint. Will they fit in?

A: Non-painting partners are a fact of life and of course, always welcome! They will find that the friendly, informal atmosphere and leisurely pace suits them too. And help is always at hand if they want to plan their own itinerary.
